Africa research is research on the African continent. It is inherently interdisciplinary and can combine history, anthropology, geography, sociology, political science and so on. The approach to the subject depends greatly on the institution and whether it is an independent department or not. The earliest program was formed by European historians and anthropologists in the early 20th century.
Research on African-Americans is also interdisciplinary, but not limited to the land, it focuses on African-American, especially in the study of Africans who have been enslaved.
