The tragedy of the commons invading our environmental rights case study: coral reefs

10/27/04 The last draft of the first paper of Disc Discinary Studies violates the commons tragedy of our environmental right. Though not, these resources are considered infinite. Whenever someone pollutes or uses these kinds of resources, it affects the whole society.

A case study on coral reef recovery was conducted on Oahu Island in Hawaii. The University of Hawai'i conducted coral reevaluation and surveillance programs to support relocation and restoration of Hawaiian coral reefs. There are lots of coral reefs in the aisle of the ship from Oahu to the Hawaii Maritime Biological Research Institute in Coconut Island. Many reef spot areas in the waterway are damaged by past dredging. Dredging covers coral with corals. Coral larvae can not settle on the sand; they can only be built on existing coral reefs or compatible hard surfaces like stone or concrete. Therefore, the university decided to relocate some corals. They transplanted them closer to the waterway with the help of the US Army's diver. They hardly observed any damage to the colonies being transported, and coral reef deaths at the transplant site were not observed.

Coral reefs are large underwater structures composed of a skeleton of a colonial ocean invertebrate known as coral. Coral seeds forming coral reefs are called harmonic types or "hard" corals because they extract hard calcium carbonate from seawater to form a hard and durable exoskeleton that protects the soft capsules. Other corals not participating in the construction of coral reefs are called 'soft' corals. The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) is a nonprofit environmental conservation organization, a flexible creature that closely resembles plants and trees such as seafans and sea whip.
