Variation in children’s classroom engagement throughout a day in preschool: Relations to classroom and child factors

Children aged 3 to 5 are more likely to participate in preschool education courses in the classroom than in the past (Snyder, Dillow, & Hoffman, 2009) in the United States. As pre-school education becomes a general background for early development, it is becoming increasingly important to understand the essence of pre-primary education experience for children. Many studies focus on describing various aspects of external early childhood education for individual children, such as the length of the school, the proportion of children and teachers, and the quality of the entire classroom environment But. Another important aspect of kindergarten is the personal experience of each child in the classroom, high quality social participation and issue participation.
In pre-school classrooms, children can regularly interact socially with teachers and colleagues or participate in work. However, preschool children may not participate equally in high-quality experiences. The basic elements of classroom organization, including the use of teachers in various activities, may be related to the frequency and quality of child participation in tasks and social partners (Kontos & Keyes, 1999). The term activity setting refers to the basic way in which teachers organize class hours according to the size and activity of the group and the general activities in preschool classes include large groups, groups, personal working hours, Free choice, outdoor time, meal and activity transformation. Al. , 2010). These activity settings may provide opportunities for children to engage actively (or negatively) with teachers, colleagues, and work (Booren, Downer, and Vitiello, Press). In addition, child elements such as age and sex may be related to how children interact with teachers, colleagues, and tasks through activity settings.
The purpose of this study was to understand the cause of fluctuation in the classroom attendance of children a day. In this framework, this research first decided the degree of stability of the participation level of the child and the degree of change of the school during the day. Next, I examined the relationship between participation and setting of activity in the classroom, and the relationship between participation and individual child factors. Investigating these structures will help you better understand how child participation in the classroom is related to change factors (activity settings) of the classroom organization and stable child factors.
In this descriptive study, we examined the setting of classroom activities related to behavior observed by the child in the classroom interaction, the gender of the child, and the basic teacher's behavior in the pre-school classroom. Using inCLASS, a total of 145 children were observed for an average of 80 minutes in 2 days. This is an observation scale that conceptualizes behaviors as interactions of teachers, peers, tasks, and conflicts. According to the survey results, interactions between children and teachers are on average higher in teacher-structured environments such as large groups. On average, interaction with children 's colleagues and work will be more active with child - oriented settings such as free choice. Children experience more conflict during rest and daily / migration. Finally, gender difference was observed in groups and meals.
