This course takes into account the visual and material culture of medieval women. We will examine women as a member, creator and theme of medieval art, architecture, and popular culture. Case studies will come from medieval Europe, Byzantine and Muslim. A comparative study of three art cultures in the Middle Ages and the Mediterranean, namely the Islamic, the Byzantine Empire, and the major Christian regions in Western Europe. Medieval Jewish art was also dealt with.
