Throughout history, humans have created beautiful art works. The Coliseum of Rome and the Statue of Liberty of New York proves extraordinary artworks that humans have been doing for many years. Now, I would like to discuss another famous art work - Gothic architecture, which is very popular in the Middle Ages. In the Middle Ages, Gothic architecture was regarded as luxurious because it exaggerated the height of the building. It not only has a height, it also has many other features like a pointed arch, an arched ceiling, and of course a lot of windows through which light can pass.
Italian gothic is said to be the most gothic in batches. Indeed, most of the familiar gothic features did not appear in Florence Cathedral (declared Gothic architecture). Florence cathedral is near the ground, there is no desire to fly. The focus is on the horizontal elements of the design, the building depends on solid ground. Instead, Oviedo Cathedral, in particular four large spiers splitting the facade into three bays, mimics the French Gothic decorative features.
Notre Dame Cathedral is the highest Gothic church in France and the largest church. In addition to Chartres and Reims Cathedral, Amiens is a member of the famous "high Gothic" or "classic" French Cathedral triad built in the 13th century. Amiens Cathedral was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. It is beautifully harmonized art and architecture. According to the local legend, Amiens' first church was founded by St. Philmin, a disciple of St. Satu Luminas of Toulouse. After his martyrdom, he was handed down to another person named Firmin. He was known as Confessor St. Philmin. I do not know anything about these Firmins; their biographies were invented in the Middle Ages.
Amiens Cathedral is the most typical Gothic building; we can almost find features of all Gothic architecture in this building. Amiens Cathedral is a Roman Catholic Cathedral. It is located in Amiens, the main city of Picardy in the northern part of Paris. It is the highest complete cathedral in France, the height of the aisle is 42.30 meters and the maximum internal volume is estimated at 200,000 cubic meters (Wikipedia, 2009). It is said that all citizens of Amiens at that time can accommodate enough (Baidu, 2009).
