The actual community was built as a town of Rainy River in 1904, originally formed around 1895 along the east coast of Rainy River, about 2 km from the current city center, by the woodcutter group at Beaver Mills Lumber Company It was purchased. Until it is a small town, the name of this little village is Beaver Mills. In 1901, the Ontario State and the Rain River railroad completed a bridge connecting Minnesota and Ontario, but the town of Beaver Mills was located at the eastern end, so a new town between the river and the two big factories It built. The only means of transportation at that time was a steamship, so some of the bridges reached the "Rain River". The town finally accepted the name. [2]
The city grew rapidly thanks to the rapidly growing timber industry, its two large factories and railroads. Forest fire called 1910 and 1910 fire occurred in the northern Minnesota province and destroyed Mills. On the south side of the river, Bodeet village and Spooner village were completely destroyed, and brave citizens of the Rainy River rescued most of the inhabitants at the last minute and supported and pulled out the train passing through the bridge. Therefore, due to the relocation of the factory, the current population has decreased from more than 2,000 people to less than 800 people.
However, as the railroad (which was absorbed by the northern Canadian railroad in 1915) was handed over to the Canadian National Railway, the hunting / fishing tourism industry continued to develop and the town was still firmly established. In the 1960s Rainy River Boat, Arctic Cat dresses of the 1970s, several large companies were closed, the town still faces a rough future. [3]
