Tim O'Brien was born on October 1, 1946 in Austin, Minnesota and moved to Worthington, Minnesota at the age of ten. O'Brien participated in a series of anti-war demonstrations in his town and found a shelter from all over the world at the county library. After graduating with honors at the University of McAlester in Sao Paulo in 1968, after obtaining a bachelor's degree, O'Brien was elected war.
