The Laban Movement Analysis
[2024-02-10 00:32:47]
Introduction: Roudolf Laban creates ways to analyze, experience and explain human movements. He developed Laban Motion Analysis (LMA), the theory and experiment of human movement. (Konie 2011) LMA helps people understand the human body and maximize their abilities. LMA has four main divisions: Body, Effort, Shape, Space (BESS) (Adrian 2008). The following academic review analyzes the body, effort, shape and space, then applies it to my character Nora and her Brighton beach memoir.
Most of the following terms derive from a framework called Laban Movement Analysis developed by Rudolf Laban in the early 20th century. He created a system to analyze, explain and document human movements. This strict framework is used not only in the dance field but also in companies and factories. Dancers understand their body deeply in the universe. At the basic level, dancers understand their personal space, also called their own play space. The movement zone refers to the space of the fingertip without changing the position of a person. In the field of human factors and ergonomics, movement of a person is also known as a gesture space, "body space" or "working space".
DAN 325 Motion Analysis Rabin's motion-based curriculum introduces the theory of Laban's motion analysis, including efforts, shapes, spaces, and bartenief-based studies. These theories apply directly to all physical behaviors of the human body, nonverbal communication, cultural differences, choreography, physical health and well-being, live performances, treatments, and teaching methods. This course focuses on the personal relevance of Laban theory for individual students and related areas such as sports research / science, theater, dance, anthropology, psychology, education. Students learn how to observe and explain movement, and how to understand their own movement patterns to improve personal expression, physical connection, health. (White, biennial)
