Prior to the massacre of Boston, British imposed a new set of taxes on American colonies, including taxes on tea, glass, paper, paint and lead. These taxes are part of a group of laws called the Townsend Act. The colony does not like these laws. They believe that these laws infringe their rights. As Britain imposed the "Print Tax Law", settlers began protesting and British men ordered soldiers to maintain order.
The massacre of Boston started on the evening of 5th March, 1770. At that time a small controversy took place between the British private Hugh White and the Boston colonyist outside the King Street Customs. As more and more colonists gather, harass and begin to throw sticks and snowmen into private white, discussions begin to escalate
Soon there were over 50 colonists on the scene. The captain of the local British officer, Thomas · Preston, sent several soldiers to the tariff building to maintain order. However, seeing British soldiers with bayonets further exacerbated the crowd. They began to shout at the soldiers and dared to put a fire on them.
Captain Preston arrived and tried to dissolve the crowd. Unfortunately, objects thrown from the crowd hit soldiers, individual Montgomery and beat him. He dismissed himself in the crowd. After fainting after a few seconds, other soldiers shot at the crowd. Three settlers immediately died and the other two died of injuries
The crowd was eventually dispelled by Boston's delegate governor Thomas Hutchinson. Thirteen people, including eight British soldiers, one military officer and four civilians, were arrested. They were waiting for a trial on suspicion of murder. The British army was also kicked out of the city
The trial of eight soldiers began on November 27, 1770. The government wants soldiers to have a fair trial, but it is difficult to represent lawyers. Finally, John Adams agreed to become a lawyer. Adams believes that even though he is a patriot, these soldiers should receive a fair trial.
Adams believes that soldiers have the right to defend themselves. They said that they thought their lives are in danger. Six soldiers were found innocent and two were convicted of slaughter
Boston massacre has been a call for colonial patriotism. A group like Son of Freed uses it to express British rule of evil. The American Revolution will not begin another five years, but this case will definitely give people different perspectives on British rule.
After the incident, the parties tried to promote the newspaper to make the other party bad. The famous print by Paul Reveier shows that Captain Preston ordered his staff to fire (he never did) and customs building was labeled "a butcher's hall".
One of the victims was a runaway slave, Chris Pass Attack, which used to be a sailor. Other victims include Samuel Gray, James Caldwell, Samuel Maverick and Patrick Cars
There is little evidence that four civilians were arrested and it turned out that they were found innocent at trial.
