War of 1812

March 27 - Congress approved the construction of six frigates to protect the American merchant fleet from harassment by Algerian pirates and British and French troops. They were designed by Joshua Humphreys and Josiah Fox and built in 6 different places. One of the ship contracts named CONSTITUTION was handed over to the Edmond Hartt shipyard in Boston.
