The National Institute of Mental Health quotes the results of 2005 research that showed that 7% of adults in the United States are suffering from depression (2005). The most affected adults are 18 to 60 years old, and women show more severe depressive symptoms than men (NIMH 2005). Various antidepressants are advertised through television commercials, but I would like to know if there are other treatments, and if so, how effective these treatments are. I am currently taking a class of yoga, and I noticed that this intensive exercise not only relaxes my body but also keeps me awake.

People who do not take antidepressant medicine or who do not receive psychotherapy can relieve mild to moderate major depression by practicing yoga. This is a small and interesting new study published in the March issue of PLoS ONE.
