World War I in Photos: Introduction

A century ago, when the Serbian nationalist assassin visited Sarajevo, he killed the successor of the Austrian-Hungarian throne. This action promotes large-scale confrontation that lasted four years. Over 30 countries have mobilized more than 65 million soldiers, the world is fighting. Industrialization has brought contemporary weapons, machinery and tactics to war, greatly increasing the mortality rate of the military. Turmoil in the western front is represented by the horizon of the crater, muddy entrenchment soldiers are faced with bullets, bombs, gasoline, bayonets, and so on. On this centennial anniversary, I collected dozens of pictures of war gathered. Several of them were first digitized and tried to convey the story of the conflict, what was involved in it, and the number of the world that it affected. This article is the first article of the 10th series on the First World War. In this part, I would like to see the beginning of the war and what it is looking forward to.

The author recently published a picture book titled "Bilder des Zweiten Weltkriegs" (picture of World War II). It includes rare and never published color photographs from World War II. In the introduction of the history of World War II, Max Hastings pointed out that war is the most important event in human history. To provide a sense of scale, I compared the casualties of the First World War - already already a historical conflict with casualties of World War II. In many ways, compressing the history of war into chapters in a small history seems to be the most difficult job in this book. If the civil war is a bold commitment to be presented in a format of 8 pages, at least the war preparations will have another chapter.
