The World Summit Award (WSA) is the initiative of the United Nations Information Society Summit (WSIS) hosted by the International New Media Center (ICNM) in Salzburg, Austria. It selects and promotes the world's best electronic content and innovative ICT applications. WSA is a global hub for everyone who demonstrates regional diversity and rich creativity of using ICT, emphasizing regional content, making the information society today more comprehensive. The World Summit on Information Society is the last United Nations Global Summit to date, historical progress in the relationship between the United Nations and NGOs. The World Summit is a complex and long process. Media often gives the impression that important decisions were made at the actual summit, but the final summit is actually a mere chance for official leaders to formally commit to speech and signature. We have reached an agreement in negotiations over the past few months (although provided the opportunity to reach some form of agreement at the highest level proved to be difficult to solve by negotiation). Because of its two-tiered structure, the WSIS process is more complicated than most processes.
