World Population Plan of Action

At the 1974 World Population Congress held in Bucharest, Romania, the women's problem caused great concern. Family planning was discussed and 137 countries drafted the World Population Action Plan. As part of the discussion, many countries accept contemporary methods of contraception such as contraceptives and condoms against abortion. The need to include population and women in discourse was discussed and the meeting agreed on the need to improve reproductive health and freedom, the status and initiative of women to protect the environment and sustainable socio-economic development.

In a report on the action plan of the International Conference on Population and Development in 1994, the United Nations Population Department said family planning should be provided to fulfill the needs of women's overall reproductive health.
