BBC Radio 3 The World Music Award is a World Music Artist Award organized by BBC Radio 3 from 2002 to 2008. This award was inspired by Ian Anderson, an editor of f roots magazine inspired by the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The categories of awards are as follows. Africa, Asia Pacific Region, USA, Europe, Middle East and North Africa, Newcomer, Culture Cross, Global Club, Annual Album, Audience Awards. The initial list of candidates in each category is chosen each year by a panel of thousands of industry experts. The remaining candidates were voted by 12 jurors who elected the winners of all categories except the audience award category. These juries are appointed and chaired by the BBC. The annual award ceremony was held at the BBC Happy Music Festival, and the winners received the award "The Planet". In March 2009, BBC decided to cancel BBC's 3rd World Music Award.
