World Environment Day 2018

In order to raise awareness of environmental protection, the United Nations designated June 5th as World Environment Day. This year, the Wildlife Alliance urges everyone to take action to protect our forests.

Forests are an important ecosystem and habitat for many endangered species in the world. Unfortunately, Cambodia is one of the countries with the highest deforestation rate in the world, with 59 million hectares (3.93 million acres) of forest area declining between 2001 and 2014. The loss of this habitat disappears (functionally destroys) the national tiger in Cambodia and is forced to destroy many other endangered species. The seriousness of deforestation is mainly due to economic land concessions, of which the Wildlife Alliance cuts 40 lands and conducts illegal logging. Despite the high rate of deforestation throughout the country, the Mulberry Mountain range is well protected as the Wildlife Confederation has used a large ranger on the ground since 2002 and regularly conducts daily patrols. With the Wildlife Alliance's ranger patrol and government campaign, we were able to prevent fragmentation of the corridor of the last consecutive elephant in Asia. Forest logging not only poses a major threat to wildlife, it also contributes to climate change by emitting carbon into the atmosphere. With our forest protection and implementation of the largest REDD + project in Southeast Asia, the Wildlife Alliance will achieve greenhouse gas reduction of approximately 3,800,000 tons annually by 2044.
