Preventing desertification The theme of World Day 2013 is drought and water shortage. This year's slogan "Do not deplete the future" calls for everyone to take actions to promote water shortage, desertification, preparation for drought and resilience. This slogan reflects our responsibility for the conservation and sustainable use of soil and water and the way we tackle these serious natural resource challenges. This publication considers that desertification is the cause of global conflicts and instability and is seeking urgent action to support communities that are at stake.
