The journal is supported by Smith University and published twice a year by Indiana University Press. The goal of Meridian is to provide scholarships to women of color and definition of contemporary feminism by exploring the forms and meanings of women's economic situation, culture, sexual behavior, resistance and extremismism strategies.
50 years after the modern women's movement has reached the national phase, the American labor force and the American economy benefited from great progress in gender equality. Women are engaged in almost all jobs that were once completely male, and many professions play an important leadership role in business and government. However, gender discrimination in the workplace is still a problem as social norms continue to limit women and men's choice of profession, thereby distorting the labor market, lowering wages, and harming corporate innovation and productivity.
