"Black Tuesday" is considered the day of stock market crash on October 19, 1929 considered to be the beginning of the Great Depression (Schultz). This led to many disasters of the US economic system that lasted ten years from 1929 to 1939 (Schultz). Meanwhile, consumption expenditure declined, the unemployment rate rose, serious drought throughout the United States caused a decline in agricultural labor force and led to an increase in the unemployment rate (Schultz). Nonetheless, after the crisis, President Roosevelt created a plan to improve the US economy during his presidency.
Known as New Deal and Second New Deal. These programs are designed to help the population of men working in the United States. Women are always considered to be less efficient than men; this leads to the difference in women's wage received from work (Goldin 82). However, with the help of Roosevelt's wife Eleanor Roosevelt, professional women finally were included in several New Deal plans to increase economic stability.
Female reformers have a long history of expertise as some New Deal plans are aimed at providing relief and social welfare - it is not surprising that these same women enter the New Deal. However, even though the program at least indirectly benefits women, such as WPA or child-dependent aid, the New Deal is not specifically designed to aid women. On the contrary, the main goal of the New Deal is the recovery of 'family wages' and assuming that the husband is the main wage earner for the family while the wife is working at home.
Many women are hired by state-of-the-art counterparts operating federal funds. The first New Deal program to directly support women was the Work Progress Control Office (WPA) that began in 1935. I am hiring a single woman, a widow, or a woman with disabilities or no husband. WPA employs about 500,000 women, mainly assigned to nontechnical work. 295,000 people participated in the sewing project, thereby bringing 300 million pieces of clothing and bedding to family relief, hospital, orphanage. Women are also hired to participate in WPA school meal program. He is engaged in art projects (music, theater, writing, etc.) that are small but widely advertised for men and women.
