Women and Gender in Colonial North America

In North America's colonial era, women had different experiences. It was caused by differences in colonial style. The North American population during this period was mainly British settlers from the UK and Wales. The rest of the population comes from Africans and Asians. Some people lived in New England, others moved to the southern colonies. In the mid-sixties, most immigrants came to North American colonies as servants and slaves of contracts.

The south colonies of North America are colonies of Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia. The first successful British colony in North America, Jamestown, was founded in Chesapeake Bay in 1607. In 1668 Charles II awarded the Charter of the owner of eight Carolina. According to George II's charter granted to George Oglethorpe, Georgia did not become a colony until 1732. The terrain of the southern colonies is located between latitudes 40 and 30 degrees and is usually divided into three regions.
