William James’ and the Legacy He Left Behind

Many people attribute modern psychology to psychologists like Sigmund Freud, Ivan Pavlov and B. F. Skinner. Although they are part of the development of modern psychology, many people forget important founder like William James. According to King, Viney, Woody, James comes from a family with a strict father. Due to their different views, James and his father have experienced many encounters. They are wealthy and culturally affluent families. James studied at Harvard University and learned various knowledge.

In the early days of school, William James expressed interest in becoming a painter. Mr. Henry James is known as the father of exceptional tolerance and freedom, but he wishes William to study science or philosophy. For the first time after William asserted his interests, Henry allowed his son to formally study the painting. After studying painting with famous artist William Morris Hunt for over a year, James dreamed of becoming a painter at Harvard University and studied chemistry.
