William Harvey (1578 - 1657)

William Harvey was born in Folkestone, Kent State on April 1, 1578. His father is a businessman. Harvey was educated at the King's College of Canterbury College and the University of Cambridge. Then he studied medicine at the university in Padua, Italy, where scientists and surgeon Hieronymus Fabricius advised him.

Fabricius is fascinated by anatomy, recognizing that a human vein has a one-way valve, but it is confused about their function. Based on the teachings of Fabricius it is Harvey to continue to solve the mystery of the role of valves in the blood circulation process.

After returning from Italy in 1602, Harvey became a doctor by herself. In 1604, he married Elizabeth Brown, the daughter of Dr. Elizabeth I, and helped his career. In 1607 he became a member of the doctor's Royal College and was appointed a doctor at St. Bartholomew hospital in 1609. When he became king in 1618, he became Elizabeth 's successor James I and James' son Charles. Both James and Charles pay close attention to Harvey's research and encourage it.

Harvey's research further developed by dissecting animals. He first published his research at the medical school in 1616 and published his theory in 1628 in a book entitled "Sports Anatomy and Vasomotion in Zoology". Harvey was also the first person who proposed that humans and other mammals propagate through sperm fertilized eggs. Finally it took another two centuries to observe the mammalian eggs, but Harvey's theory gained the trust of his life.

Harvey maintained a close relationship with the royal family through the British Civil War and witnessed the fight of Edge Hill. Thanks to Charles I, he worked as a guardian of Oxford Merton University (1645 - 1646) for a short period of time. He died on June 3, 1657
