William Christopher Handy

William Christopher Handy Handy is an African American composer and music writer for "BLUES". He was born in Florence, Alabama. He was educated at the Black Agricultural and Mechanical Institute near Huntsville, Alabama. He is the former slave's son. He was educated at public school with his father and grandfather, and they were all clergy. Handy made the African American blues the first person to draw public attention and in 1912 announced his Memphis Blues.

William Christopher Handy was born in Florence, Alabama in 1873. He is the grandson of his son and a religious priest.
