In the third act, John Proctor went to Salem with Mary Warren and asked her to admit that these girls were a liar. Mary Warren's testimony weakens Abigail's authority and may greatly hurt her reputation. Abigail recognized that the testimony of Mary Warren is very important and that it may cause Salim 's court to dissolve. John Proctor also attempted to weaken the authority and reputation of Abigail by admitting that he is suffering from her. After Proctor's confession, Abigail noticed that she had to shake the court in a manner that was beneficial to him and take action, just as she saw Mary Warren's spirit flying in the air. Abigail and the other girls continued to take hysterical actions and shouted out that the spirit of Mary appeared in the form of birds and threatened to attack them. As tension increased, Mary Warren was concerned about her life. She eventually ran to Abigail and admitted that John conspired with the devil. The work of Abigail and John Proctor were arrested.
