Early in the 19th century, almost all of South America was under colonial rule. Most of the land is followed by Portuguese, Spanish, and French. British occupied North America and eventually lost it to colonists in the late eighteenth century. South American ethnic diversity prevails over North America. In the north, white people became the dominant population slowly. It is not so in Latin America. Even after colonization, ethnic population is still prosperous. In short, the settlers did not eradicate the locals.
British colonial settlers in British colonies in North America believe in autonomy. In 1619, the settlers of Virginia formed the first representative government in North America. The Virginians chose the representative of the house of Burgesses. In the representative government, voters elect the people to enact legislation. Pilgrims arrived in New England in 1620 after signing a Mayflower contract. This is the first plan of the North American government. Voters have a say in most colonies owned by their owners. Only those who possess property can vote for British colonies. However, colonialists still have more say in the government than most people in Europe.
