Why Become a Historian?

When reading this brochure, remember that each contributor is a student - Yes, even students like you are. All of us were afraid of some teachers (I was Miss Ruth Kowalski, a teacher at a public junior high school in New York City at the beginning), but I soon forgot it. Have you ever thought of becoming a historian? Of course we did it, but in most cases it may not dare to imagine it, and often I think this is not what we have learned. Even after entering a profession, even at universities and graduate schools, sometimes we reconsider with confidence

Being a teacher involves great responsibility, so it is the same as being a parent. As a teacher of history, it adds another burden: it is like a parent responsible for memory, in this case social memory. And our memories are often selective - remember mainly for our purposes - the burden of historians is to restore memory and save it until it is true and complete

As America is a diverse country of people all over the world or people all over the world, it is essential for our collective memory and worldview to have a historian of representative diversity . They can provide special tilt and perspective, so we can make it better. There is no one in the truth, nor the truth. The more we understand the past of human experience, the more we can survive. Historians play a central role in this basic work. It is necessary for someone to continue working. Why are you not you?

There is another reason to become a historian: it is very interesting. The mystery of history is bringing out our detectives; there are countless unresolved crimes, mysteries and unresolved arguments. I can easily think that I want to put in my two cents, I am very worried. It is also interesting to know celebrities and ordinary people. Since the times are constantly changing, customs change and the level of style, customs, technology, and knowledge change. I like to understand the daily lives of different eras in different cultures and celebrity habits (including habits, weaknesses, bad habits). Perhaps most importantly, at least in my opinion, history education is very interesting: I like to tell stories and involve young people in constructive discussions that lead to understanding and personal growth. I like to learn. I also like to turn skeptics (especially people who think that history is boring or wasting time) to believers; I like to bring smiles, confusion or recognition or attention in the classroom I like it. In other words, I like to brighten up sparks and make a difference. As a historian, especially those who taught me to help enjoy life (whether at home or on the trip) and those who understand who I am.

Knowledge of history does not apply only to professional historians. In fact, our graduates hardly become professional historians. History has become a very popular topic. Because our students have not only a historical perspective but also a lot of practical skills worthy of value in other fields. 1) Our students are taught not to believe all the statements they read, but to face other statements. Most importantly, we are to ask the source (ie the most ingenious material) and train the students to decide the correctness of the past based on these findings. In doing so, our students learned to question the reliability of the statement. However, this key method also applies to the source itself.

In order to succeed as a historical student or historian, you must first become an excellent researcher. Research is a method to find and collect information and historical evidence from various places. Evidence can be found in various formats such as documents, visual materials, physical artifacts, verbal and digital sources. Historians use their knowledge and skills to find sources of information and extract information, evidence and meanings from them. They critically think about each evidence and test and evaluate its reliability, reliability, practicality and importance. From all these things, historians and historical graduates are quite skilled in the retrieval, processing and evaluation of information. These skills are not only evaluated in history but also in other fields and various occupations.
