Why are Critiques of Essentialism Important to Contemporary Debates about Gender?

My understanding of the views of gender essentialists is that they believe that gender is biologically determined and they reject any concepts of social and environmental influences. They also believe that gender is inherently a biological entity born by nature, so gender is fixed and can not be changed. There are many criticisms on essentialism such as constitutionalism and feminism, and criticism of these and realism is very important for contemporary gender controversy. In my opinion, one of the main criticisms on essentialism comes from constructivism.
