Inspired by more and more science and engineering, Whitman wrote a poem like 'The way to India' which praised the open world and the rapidly globalized world of the Suez Canal. When it comes to learning astronomers these poems will conflict between scientific rationality and space experience. He continued to revise and expand "grass leaves" and participated in several prose projects, including atomorphic autobiographical "trade show days" and "prospects of democracy", articles on US reconstruction.
