Our sculpture is based on the character of Jim O'Brien, Tim O'Brien's novel "They carry". Our sculptures represent the hands of Jimmy Cross and what he carried in the war. We carved my hands with letters, compasses and pebbles. Letters and pebbles come from his love, Malta. He took these things home and coped with the war. As lieutenant, he led the other soldiers, so he took a map with the compass. Jimmy Cross not only has luggage but also has an emotional burden.
