The term "adaptive" is a comprehensive term that represents the set of physical attributes required to perform a human task in a safe and healthy way. This includes, but is not limited to, three general fitness areas in health, technical and sports related fields. This blog focuses on the characteristics of the health domain.
The health field includes factors such as appropriate body weight, cardiovascular health, muscle flexibility, muscle endurance, muscular strength and so on.
Proper weight requires balanced diet and regular exercise. To maintain proper weight and prevent further complications, it is essential to consult a registered nutritionist or a doctor.
Cardiovascular health is the ability of the heart and lung to meet the oxygen demand of the body. This is very important for all other aspects of fitness. The American Sports Medicine Society (ACSM) recommends intense exercise two or three times a week, two or three times a week. Activities that help to achieve this goal include running, stair climbing, walking, cycling and swimming.
This refers to the ability of muscle and other tissues to stretch and shorten across the entire range of motion of the joint. Various factors such as age, health level, gender, physique etc. may affect human flexibility. ACSM recommends stretching for 10 to 30 seconds per stretch two to three times a week to reduce mild discomfort. They also recommend that they stay warm before the muscles stretch. This can be accomplished by stretching or jogging before stretching.
This means the ability of the muscles to maintain activity. It depends on how the muscle uses energy. Aerobic energy is the use of oxygen as energy. Exercise to enhance cardiovascular function can increase endurance of aerobic exercise in muscle. This includes running, cycling and swimming. Anaerobic energy for short-term muscular strength related activities such as weight training and fast running
This is the ability of the muscles to create power or work. It is related to anaerobic energy which can increase muscle size, improve joint function, and enhance bone strength.
Physical health includes two related concepts: general health (health and well-being) and specific fitness (task-oriented definition based on the ability to perform specific aspects of sports and occupation). Physical health is usually achieved by exercise, proper nutrition, and adequate rest. It is an important part of life. In my career as a trainer, I have seen various degrees of fitness. Just because someone else can do something you can not do does not diminish your health. That means you can not perform that particular task. I learned through experience that there are two types of fitness, cardiovascular health and body health. The combination of the two forms creates what I call perfectly fit.

Coachlastmann, also known as the founder of Crossfit, defines fitness as ability to work in a wide range of time and modal realm. This concept is applied throughout the year, leading to the definition of overall health. I have found that it extends the scope of this definition to include the value of understanding skill set and application understanding. This value is reflected in the attainable mental state that builds a truly satisfactory lifestyle that prioritizes health and understanding to promote longevity and compassion.
