What is Agroforestry?

What is agroforestry? Many people do not know what agroforestry is. The answer is simple. Agroforestry integrates trees, crops, and / or livestock into a system that focuses on the interaction between the components rather than the components themselves (Sharrow 1997). It is mainly conducted in developing countries where the ability to produce several different products is important for farmers. The scale of agroforestry implementation is the same as the size of single agriculture in the United States.

Planting coffee beneath a shady canopy has many documented environmental benefits, but what is the economic and social impact of agroforestry? Since each coffee plantation has a different ecological quality and each farmer has a different story, it may be difficult to evaluate an adaptive solution for a coffee plantation system. The majority of coffee producers are poor small farmers cultivating less than 5 hectares. Food security is an important consideration for these producers and access to funds is a major limiting factor in implementing environmental adaptation measures (Gay, Estrada, Conde, Eakin, & Villers, 2006).

Agro-ecology technology as an agroforestry can harmoniously combine forest protection and agricultural development. Participation in afforestation with small farmers around the world, promoting agroforestry is an important benefit and social and environmental benefits to the planet and human are enormous.

Agriculture, livestock industry, forestry can be rotated at the same time or in space on the same land. Agroforestry is aimed at ensuring ecological stability and maximizing the benefits of land users. Agroforestry can be used for agricultural agriculture (simultaneous or sequential planting of crops and forest products), sylvie pasture (planting of forest products and livestock) and agrocylvi paste (human planting food, pasture of livestock, woody plants providing wood products )

In a combined production system, agriculture, animal husbandry, forestry and combinations thereof are carried out in the same land whether it is crop or space. This combination, also known as "agricultural forestry", may involve crop production and livestock breeding where trees and shrubs play an important role. The basic goal of agroforestry is to achieve ecological stability while providing maximum short-term and long-term benefits to land users.
