Mutation is a change in our DNA sequence due to errors in DNA replication or environmental factors such as ultraviolet rays and tobacco smoke.

Mutations can also be caused by exposure to environmental factors such as smoking, sunlight, radiation.

Normally, cells recognize injuries that can cause mutations, and repair them before they become fixed mutations.

For example, sickle cell anemia is caused by a genetic mutation that indicates the construction of a protein called hemoglobin. This makes red blood cells an abnormally hard sickle. However, in the African population, this mutation can also prevent malaria.

The drug used to induce the mutation is called a mutagen. Certain genes in organisms promote mutations in other genes near the chromosome. For example, the gene Dt of maize chromosome 9 increases the mutation rate of other genes.
