What Do Students Expect: 7 Things All Teachers Should Know

Being a thoughtful practitioner is an essential feature of an effective educator. Understanding, listening to, and paying attention to the student's voice is an excellent skill for experts to explore and develop.

At the beginning of the school year, teachers often share their expectations. Teachers accurately inform students of the rules / programs, routines, and goals they set. But how much does the teacher listen to the students' expectations?

Sometimes it is difficult to hear the idea that the students regard us as leaders of the classroom. Every classroom has partnership, and this partnership should be respected and appreciated. I also believe the students' voices, so I think it is fair to talk about the expectations of teachers and students in the classroom.

A few years ago, my friend posted pintrest photos on Facebook. This is an image of the problem, and the student answers each question with a sticky note. I like to go back to school activities and sticky notes, so this seems to be a perfect event.

I posted a question, and the students had some time to answer any and / or all questions they wanted, then we discussed. I have changed a few questions. This is the last question to get the most surprising answer; it receives the most answers compared to other questions. This question gets the most answers each time I do this activity. The students gave a very good answer. Do not get me wrong, I have obvious things such as interesting things, lack of homework, free A, but most answers are unexpected.

I decided to do this in a scientific way I taught at a local university. I found that my undergraduates and 4th grade students like my expectations like educators. Both old and young students want to get the same from the teacher.
