Academic research has countless effects, but I will focus on three. One is knowledge discovery. The second is to cultivate excellent academic skills that can improve the quality of the university. The third is an active contribution of our society in promoting economic growth and employment. After all, the purpose of university research is to solve current social problems and completely change the human experience towards a better future.
Many studies are needed to measure these effects, but it is absolutely viable. As an example take the Apollo program at the University of Maryland. After the project was completed, the national economy was seriously affected and 34,000 jobs were created. Another good example of measuring the impact of academic research is the study conducted by Searby and Thursday (2011). Basically, they studied research databases at 11 major universities in the US; variables included researcher engagement and research disclosure. The authors investigated the general situation of faculty research, especially the faculty members of the science and technology department. In 17 years, they discovered that research-oriented teachers are likely to get permission and terms of office. In addition, they found a strong correlation between university research and government funds. American college funds are primarily from the federal government and ultimately to explore new discoveries that promote economic growth.
For other people, we recognize that the influence of academic research may be ambiguous, but if these high-quality research are effectively explained and developed appropriately to improve the quality of life, development Our society
Researchers increasingly need to prove the impact of their research on their sponsors, donors and other scholars. However, the most appropriate way to measure the impact of health care research remains controversial. Our goal is to identify existing methodologies to measure the impact of healthcare research and to group common themes and indicators into impact matrix. Two independent researchers searched systematically for Online Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System (MEDLINE), Excerpta Medica Database (EMBASE), Nursing and Related Health Reference Integration Index (CINAHL +), Health Management Information Alliance and Research Assessment Journal Did. From the beginning to the end of 2017, a methodological framework on the impact on research is provided for publications. Then we summarized common concepts and themes that span the methodological framework and identified indicators to evaluate the impact of different forms.
RS has conducted research in academic research for decades. There are many research papers that introduce various algorithms, and academic means are used to equalize these algorithms. These measures are called offline countermeasures. Just fine-tune them based on those metrics using algorithms in the sandbox without having to put anything into production. I personally studied these countermeasures, but from my point of view today they are all prehistoric. But in the mid-2006 Netflix awards purely academic measurements called RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) were used.
It is almost impossible to evaluate the usefulness of an algorithm by looking at the code or measuring it according to a formula. To assess the risks and benefits of algorithms, whether in a controlled laboratory environment or in a wider world, we need to study the impact on people's lives. Here we use social science tools to understand how algorithms are related to the social world and influence human results at micro and macro levels. I hope this chart will help researchers, journalists and regulators to ask better questions about the social impact of algorithms. Imagine you have an artificial intelligence system that can detect so-called hate speech. Unfair systems may cause systemic errors that put some people at a disadvantage and even even those who are trying to protect them. Harmful systems may increase extremism. As a society, we should try to build a useful and fair system, but in most cases we will just consider fairness or practicality and never consider both.
