The whole old English poet Beowulf, Glendell, Glendell's mother and dragon are known as opponents / monsters. As "saying beauty is mere superficial", but in this case their appearance is not just to confirm the definition of their behavior. A lot of roles, functions, explanations, and potential motivations and information sources of "monster" announced at Beowulf are written. - Grendel's book by John Gardner and Beowulf translated by Seamus Heaney has a very clear view on the role role playing of each. Beowulf translators and Grendel authors follow the idea that everyone has a story. A story is the recognition of the personality of a character by a writer, the way people treat and handle characters, and how to associate these ideas.

In the poem "Beowulf", Glendell's mother is a terrible creature, one of the enemies Beowulf, the hero, which is hostile. The fight with Glendell's mother seems to be the most strangest of the three fights. The strange main reason is that Glendell's mother was the mother of Monster Glendell who was killed by Beowulf in the first fight. Another strange reason is that Grendel's mother is the only woman's creature. - Most writers occasionally use their character to guide their personal view they want to emphasize to the audience. In John Gardner 's novel "Glendell", Gardner used Grundell as an agent to portray his view of the evil world of mankind and its position in outer space. In addition to using Glendell as a carrier, Gardner uses his dragon as a separate source of information to express his views to people all over the world.
