Susan D. Richardson is a research chemist at the National Exposure Research Laboratory at Athens Environmental Protection Agency in Georgia, USA. He got a degree in chemistry and mathematics from Georgia University in 1984 and a doctorate in chemistry at Emory University in 1989. At the US Environmental Protection Agency, she led a team of chemicals and developed and applied multispectral analysis techniques to solve environmental problems. Her recent research focuses on the identification / characterization of disinfection byproducts (DBP) with particular emphasis on alternative disinfectants and polar byproducts. She is writing 17 chapters and book chapters in this area. She conducted two collaborative work in combination with her identity survey to provide a basis for evaluating DBP's public health risks. The first is a detailed survey of DBP in municipal waterworks to judge the degree and extent of public contact. The second is to work with scientists from the National Environmental Protection Agency of the US Environmental Protection Agency to investigate the human health effects on DBP individually and collectively.

The purpose of this manual is to explain the atomic absorption method for water analysis for use by the Water Quality Research Institute of the Water Resources Department of the US Geological Survey and to regulate procedures through guidance as laboratory personnel is.
