Washington Irving was born in Manhattan, New York on April 3, 1783. He is the youngest among the eleven children born from parents, William and Sara Owen. In the week of his birth, Americans have won the revolutionary war, and his parents named him after the war hero, George Washington. When Irving was 6 years old, he met his name of the same name, and Washington celebrated the child who evoked appreciation and interest for the president.

When Owen was born in Washington, Owen lived at 131 William Street. Several of Owen's brothers in Washington became active businessmen in New York, often encouraging brothers' literary ambitions and receiving financial support in their written career. . As a student who is not interested, Owen likes adventurous stories and dramas, and at the age of 14 he stepped out of the classroom in order to go to the theater at night. Yellow fever in Manhattan in 1798 urged him to send his family to a healthier place upstream and Owen was sent to James Kirk Polling, a friend of Tarrytown in New York. Nick Bock's town in Texas was founded by two nephews of Owen naming the town honoring the name of his uncle's literary pen. Owen Texas claims to have been named after Washington Irving. Local historians said that Owen co-founder Otis Brown and J. O. Schulze decided to name the city with favorite writer and artist of Otis Brown's wife, Otis Brown, in 1902 believe. Schultz is a graduate engineer at the University of Iowa, a member of the Washington Irvine Literature Association, but I do not like the name Owen. Irving city council officially adopted Washington Irving as a writer of the same name in 1998.
