September 1780 brought new influences to Washington. British Major John Andre was arrested outside New York and the document he carried carried out a conspiracy between the UK and Benedictine General Arnold. After Arnold was seriously injured in the battle of Saratoga in October 1777, Washington respected Arnold's military skills and acquired military command of Philadelphia. During his regime, Arnold created many political enemies, and in 1779 he negotiated secret negotiations with General Clinton who led Conspiracy to surrender Washington to Washington, 1780 with West Point, Arnold's guidance The command given to him by the month that began was warned that Andre was arrested and fled to the English route just before Andre arrived at the West Point in Washington. In negotiations with Clinton, Washington proposed replacing André with Arnold, but Clinton refused. André was hung as a spy and Arnold became a brigade of British troops
