The Voodoo teaching in Haiti states: Exposure to my voodoo is an attractive lifestyle. Since living in Haiti in the early 1980s, certain drums in my mystery aroused my interest. Their melodies and rhythms seem to consume the moist air of the night. The life in Haiti is quite different from the life in the USA, the Western way of thinking seems a bit odd but you can feel the spirit of almost every aspect of Haitian life.
White zombies obviously caused the greatest fear of Voodoo in the United States and changed the spiritual belief system into a horror theme. Haiti is a primitive and chaotic place, magic and zombies. Western religion, the ultimate tradition of marriage is bound by the dark magic of the world not civilized. In Ouanga (1936), a female Haitian farmer owner fell in love with a white male and used Voodoo to summon two black zombies that caught that male fiancé as a Voodoo ceremony. Her plan ultimately failed and she was annoyed by the "noble" black servants. I walked the zombies (1943). So a white nurse went to the Caribbean and had a series of wild primitive illusions about zombies to explore the psychological fear of voodoo.
The key to understanding the relationship and interaction between Catholicism and Voodoo is the fusion of two belief systems. Children born in rural homes are usually baptized twice, once in Voodoo and once in Catholic church. Voodoo teaches a lot. It means the attitude towards life and death, the concept of the ancestors and later generations, and the recognition of individuals and the power to dominate their activities. People who practice Voodoo dominate the laws and powers of the universe and believe in the Pantheon of the representing gods. In this pantheon, there are the supreme gods, gods gods, Loa of hordes of small gods, and twins known as Marasa. Twins are considered to have special powers to offer them special service once a year.
Public religions are Roman Catholics (75%) and Voodoo (70%), and most Haitian practice. Voodoo is a private religion, represented by a series of complex ritual pictures, songs and dances. This is an African religion and is not contradictory to the general belief in Christianity. There is a Protestant minority. One of the first places Columbus landed in the magnificent voyage of 1490 was Hispaniola. This island is known as Santo Domingo and is currently split between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Columbus became the first governor of Santo Domingo. The Araqu Indians were quickly and brutally replaced by the Spaniards. And they used the island as a base to begin their conquest of the Caribbean and Central America. At the end of the sixteenth century, Spanish European competitors began to challenge its dominance on the island, and in 1697 the Spaniards handed over the western half of the island to France.
