From regulators to Rambo, watchmakers have played a leading role in the history and culture of the United States of America. This junior symposium keeps track of the long history of US police activities as a role, and the violence of public security from early Americans to the present. We will focus on the central issue of this history: what is the relationship between security personnel and the state? Where can I distinguish between alertness, terrorism, and rebellion? How can the police contribute to the construction of the country? We will also explore the superiority of the police in popular culture focusing on Jesse James, Dirty Harry, Macache, Punisher, Superhero, John Wayne movies, and Tobey's lyrics. Students will write a number of final papers based on key sources exploring one element of this discussion.

Vigilance is a form of "vigilance" which means to monitor events and people. Sometimes the security maintainer reports on criminal arrests and sometimes organizes police groups for criminals of bad neighbors. A common, integrated use is "security and justice". This means the form of compliance outside the official channel of the police and the court.

A vigilante can be defined as an organization that develops and enforces its own law, assuming there is a lack of proper enforcement. Fines for security maintainers are often designed based on so-called crime, and they often carry out informal trials, but mandatory lynching is considered a result of police arrest. It may appear in urban areas affected by the traditions of the border, but the main alert is the frontier phenomenon. In a richly researched study on this subject, Richard Maxwell Brown argues that South Carolina regulators were organized in the 1760s to suppress the wave of backcountry crime. Frontier movement is the first precedent of vigilance. Generally, alarming when the border moves west is a mid-19th century phenomenon.
