Valley Forge

As the winter cold approaches, the wild Army still will enter the 22 - mile Valley Forge winter camp from Philadelphia, the British occupied. Washington chose the location on the west bank of the Schuylkill River.

Valley Forge's US military spent a bad winter between 1777 and 1778, about 32 km (17 miles) from Philadelphia at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Valley Forge may be called Gethsemane for the fight for our independence. When the enemy was eating in the Philippines, soldiers here endured infinite difficulties such as trembling, cold and hunger. Pains of famine and sickness are spreading. There is not enough blankets to warm up or clothes to cover naked. The wind blew, whistled, passed through the hill of New England, floated around the field and the hut, sleeves and snow fell to the camp. On the night of the starlight, the solitary sentry often blew back and forth on his beat, often bleeding. And some of them went barefoot on the snow covered ground. Only a miracle seems to be able to save the army.

One of the most permanent myths about Valley Forge camp is the weather. Valley Forge has been drawn for a long time by stories and photographs covered with snow and ice. In these stories, it is said that exposure and frostbite robbed many soldiers' lives. Disconnection occurs, but there is no definitive source to allege that death occurs only at freezing temperatures. By contrast, in Valley Forge the amount of snowfall is low, temperatures above freezing are routine and ice is not common. The harsh winter story is mainly from Winter Camp in 1779-1780 in Jockey Hollow near Morristown, New Jersey. According to the report, the winter from 1779 to 1780 was one of the worst winter of the century, its story and image permeated American consciousness against Valley Forge.
