Your CAC will provide various functions based on your component / command. Each component / command can customize the functionality of the card to meet its specific needs, but CAC is mainly used for authentication. Certain information about food service, training, dental, medical, physical / logical access is not stored on the card, but you can enable such a system using credentials. To protect your CAC information, do not let your someone know your PIN or write it to an easily found place. Your PIN should be as secure as your social security number. Even if you enter the incorrect PIN code three times in succession, the card will lock you and you will not be able to access your information.

Repairing or replacing CAC usually requires access to the RAPIDS function, which brings some practical problems. In remote areas around the world without direct access to the Internet or physical access to the RAPIDS function, CAC is wasted when the card expires or reaches the maximum number of retries of the PIN. According to CAC regulations, users of TAD / TDY need to access the RAPIDS function to change or unlock the CAC, usually to go to other places or return home.
