Urban Planning: The History of Cycling Infrastructure

In cities built around the world, cities are planning to use bicycle infrastructure such as bicycle lanes to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. Bicycle commuting is common in Europe, especially the Netherlands, Germany and parts of Denmark. In Copenhagen, cycling groups operate bicycle embassies to promote cycling work and sightseeing. In the UK there is a tax reduction (IR 176) that allows employees to purchase new bicycles for duty-free commuting

Despite the benefits of a healthy bicycle, Amsterdam's size is relatively small, and the growth of the city means that there is the possibility of increasing local traffic problems such as traffic, air, water and noise pollution .
