Universities and Empire: Money and Politics in the Social Sciences During the Cold War

Robert Legvold is an emeritus professor of political science at Columbia University, Marshall D. Shulman, specializing in international relations between the Soviet Union and Russia. His latest book is "Returning to the Cold War." He is currently director of the new project "Understanding the Challenge of the New Nuclear Age" of the Academy of American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Nancy Mitchell is a professor of history at North Carolina State University. She is a writer Jimmy Carter in Africa: Race and Cold War (Stanford, 2016), he won the diplomatic American Academy, Douglas Dillon Award and SHAFR Robert H. This course introduces the study of American foreign policy. Its main focus will be the problems and possibilities the world faces during the Cold War and the global political change since the Cold War and the September 11 attacks. Important foreign policy strategies to be discussed include the containment strategy, NSC-68, Eisenhower Dulles' s "New Look", Kennedy Johnson's "flexible response", "mitigation", democratic peace, and world terrorism Includes a contemporary way to fight. The theoretical reading of history and political science will be used as an analytical filter to evaluate American foreign policy and academic evaluation of major historical events.
