Health care is the activity including early protection, rapid treatment, and treatment of illness and physical and mental conditions by providing necessary services. Specific population characteristics of the area, commonly referred to as demographics, include age, sex, ethnicity, income, employment status, disability, literacy rate, and travel patterns. Founded in 1985, Unity Health Care is designed to provide first class services to people who do not have homes and houses surrounding shelters and sidewalks in the District of Columbia.

Unity Health Care serves a total of 106,000 unique patients in the District of Columbia. In addition to having more than 25 centers in the city, Unity serves communities instead of going "to meet their patients" through 11 collaborative sites, several campus health centers and outreach vans. In Unity, patients can meet the needs of all primary care in their immediate vicinity, including dental, visual and health services for general health / preventive care. Unity Healthcare / Project Orion's outreach staff is working with a variety of people with diverse needs. The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, participation in and support of established treatment plans, enhancement of social function, and improvement of the quality of life of customers. Outreach workers are culturally sensitive contacts between customers and services and / or service providers to ensure that services and service providers provide culturally relaxed treatment plans.
