According to President Barack Obama, the purpose of the foreign policy of the United States is to "do what you can to do to protect US citizens" and to point out that this is his top priority. Recently American diplomacy included political riots in Egypt and Libya, dissatisfaction with human rights violations in China, terrorist war in Iraq and Afghanistan, threat of nuclear weapons against Iran and sanctions against Iran.

President's doctrine includes the main purpose, attitude or status of American diplomacy outlined by the President. Most presidents want to announce doctrines that outline their foreign policy. For example, President Kennedy's principle of "flexible response" is the foreign policy initiative against Latin America. Kennedy expressed support for the suppression of communism in the Western Hemisphere and support for the Communist party's overthrow. - Truman's Containment Policy: Relationship between Individual and Society Containment in foreign policy is called George Kenan's proposed strategy to block Soviet expandingism by exerting pressure against the Soviet boundary. Trumanism is the name of President Truman's speech at the General Assembly on March 12, 1947, where he unveiled the new policy and role of the United States in world affairs.
