United States and Ghana Promote Seed Sector Development

Ghana, Accra - On August 24th, the United States International Development Agency (USAID) cooperated with the Department of Food and Agriculture, through the US Government's Feed the Future initiative, to set up the Ghana National Seed Trade Association (NASTAG) and other development partners It was. The association aims to stimulate private investment and promote the use of high quality authenticated seeds. The meeting was attended by Jenna Tajchman of the United Nations Development Agency / Ghana Agriculture Group General and Sagre Bambangi Deputy Agriculture Minister, who emphasized the importance of developing the Ghana seed industry to build the future of food security.

During the event, seven new Executive Committee members of the Association were hired to enhance the competitiveness of the seed industry in Ghana. The Executive Council will strengthen its business and technical skills, promote cooperation among participants in the seed value chain, and establish normative, standardized, and general seed information for all stakeholders put forward.

The Government of Ghana will give priority to species as its core agricultural program 'Growth of food and employment', and NASTAG will play a leading role in its implementation. By promoting the development of the seed industry and securing access to high quality certified seeds in Ghana, there is the possibility of improving national agricultural productivity and improving the safety of food and nutrition.
