Poor protection and hyperactive pain perception: problems and possible solutions Pain may be one of the most common perceptions human or any animal can experience. The purpose of this article is to deepen the understanding of the concept of pain. My goal is to use conceptual analysis to define the characteristics of pain and identify the precedents that affect the sensation of pain and the possibility of pain effects. In recent research it has been pointed out that even with state-of-the-art technologies and medicines the pain may not be completely controlled (Kotzer, 2000; Kotzer, Coy, & LeClaire, 1998; Kotzer & Foster, 2000) . Beyer (2000) concluded that 715 children with sickle cell anemia interviewed had moderate to severe pain. Every effort of the researchers seems to be unable to completely alleviate the suffering of children. The children continue to suffer. The lack of knowledge of pain management among health care providers has proven to be one of the main causes of this gap (Hester & Foster, 1993).
