Bullying prevention policies and laws are essential to prevent bullying and to ensure consistent results. All 50 states have enacted anti-bullying domestic law. Laws vary from state to state, but each law provides bullying prevention guidelines for the state-wide school system. Currently, there is no federal law against bullying, but bullying based on prejudice that overlaps with harassment is regarded as an infringement of citizenship and must be reported to the Civil Rights Bureau of the US Department of Education and the Civil Rights Division of the US Department of Justice.
In 2010, the Civil Rights Bureau of the US Department of Education issued a "Dear Colleague's Letter" explaining the outline of federal laws related to bullying and considering the school's responsibilities effectively responding to bullying. The US Department of Education has also identified guidelines for eleven recommendations that schools can use to formulate a comprehensive policy to support climate of prevention of bullying. That element is that the National Education Bureau and the Legislature are responsible for providing school guidance and guidance on anti-law and policy. Ideally, state educational institutions, state legislatures, and researchers will benefit from convoking an annual working group to develop, implement and monitor bullying prevention laws and policies.
