According to the US Defense Department and the Veterans Affairs Department (VA), this is a common experience for 1.4 million people currently working in the US military and 22 million veterans. This means that 7.3% of Americans worked in the military at some point in their life, experiencing events that changed training, situation, and life without anyone else. So, how do you talk about their experiences with veterans? The students of Drexel University and the members of the West Philadelphia Community participated in this summer side-by-side English course "war stories" looking for artistic answers. By watching non-fiction books and newspaper articles, you can appreciate movies and documentaries about soldiers in conflict and post-conflict situations. You can also understand how to interact with veterans from families, friends, communities and other places and how to talk.
